The Perlas Pilipinas national women’s team bowed to Australia in the women’s quarterfinals of the 2019 FIBA3x3 Asia Cup basketball tournament yesterday in Changsa, China.
Alice Kunek finished with 12 points in the dealing the Philippines a 21-16 win.
This allowed Australia to become the first team to advance to the semifinals.
The Philippines advanced to the quarterfinals following an 8-20 loss to Japan, and a 21-6 win over Sri Lanka.
Second seed Mongolia joined Australia in the semifinals after dispensing of Turkmenistan, 17-15.
It was Kazakhstan which finished the pool play undefeated.
They followed up an easy victory against Kyrgyzstan by a much tougher triumph over Mongolia, 17-14.
Thailand to advancing to the women’s Pool D main draw with their win over Iran, 21-14, with Khwanjira Thongdaeng scoring 10 points to make history for her country.
In the men’s side, host China prevailed over World Cup 2014 winners Qatar, 21-13), with Yi Zheng leading in scoring with 13 points to book a quarterfinals seat with Qatar.
Qatar earned a ticket after getting past New Zealand, 21-20.
