Far Eastern University reaffirms its commitment to nation-building through excellence in education as it celebrates its 91st founding anniversary this year.
The yearlong celebration, with the theme “Preparing to fulfill Aspiration 2020 in challenging times,” highlights FEU’s proactive disposition in social development. It is packed with activities that address concerns faced by the education sector and the nation as a whole.
“FEU has come a long way over the past 91 years. This institution has produced many leaders and catalysts for change who embody the same courage and goodwill that our school was founded on,” shares FEU Chair Aurelio Montinola III. “Through whatever ordeals, we will make sure that the school continues to stay true to its purpose. I am confident that we can instill the bravery that will lead to and affect change in the youth of today.”
The university enjoyed a busy year in 2018, having opened its sixth campus in Filinvest City, Alabang. The new site can accommodate up to 18,000 students, and hosts business, science, IT, and engineering programs. FEU also welcomed its first batch of senior high school graduates.
Gearing up to be “Braver Today,” the school plans to renew its Autonomous Status with the Commission on Higher Education, integrate its Alabang and Diliman campuses with FEU Tech, and expand the program offerings in all its units.
The anniversary celebration was marked by the annual wreath-laying ceremony in honor of FEU founder Dr. Nicanor Reyes. For the first time in 91 years, the homage was conducted closer to the death anniversary of Dr. Reyes. The FEU Drums and Bugle Corps and the FEU Choral performed; butterflies were released at the founder’s marker.
“I say with pride and humility that we continue to carry the torch that Dr. Reyes passed on to the generations before us,” says Montinola. “As we move forward with our mission, we will make sure to continue exemplifying the same benevolence he had, and serve the people of our nation.”
