The newly created Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao covers Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao and Lanao Sur, and the cities of Marawi, and Lamitan in Basilan as its core territory. The same LGUs formed the territory of the erstwhile ARMM.

In a region-wide memorandum, Sinarimbo said an advisory by the National Disaster Risk-Reduction Management Council indicated that a forecast position of Typhoon Chedeng would hit the southwest portion of Zamboanga and some areas of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi within 48 hours.

“Anent this, all local chief executives [LCEs] in Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi are hereby directed to activate their Emergency Operations Centers 24/7, convene their LDRRMC and undertake necessary mitigating actions and assessment in preparation for the incoming calamity,” Sinarimbo said in a memorandum.

The MLG chief also directed all its provincial operations directors in the island provinces, as well as their local government operations officials “to provide technical assistance and facilitate convening of LDRRMCs within their assigned areas.”

Sinarimbo said MLG provincial operations directors in Maguindanao and Lanao Sur are also encouraged to “direct the local officials within their fields of assignment to monitor updates on the Typhoon Chedeng and to advise their LGUs on disaster preparedness.”

The BARMM-MLG also required the region’s local operations officers and units “to provide necessary monitoring reports through (the MLG) as soon as possible.”
