The Pasig Grindhouse Kings found a way to get payback on the 1Bataan Risers in the second leg of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 President’s Cup last Sunday at the SM Megamall Events Center.
Fil-American cager Joshua Munzon knocked in the winning two-pointer in the closing minute for the Kings’ 21-18 triumph in their finals rematch with the Risers.
“We needed to stop fouling because we had a lot of fouls. We needed to find a way to control the game. So we found a way,” said the 24-year Munzon, who plays for AMA Online Education in the PBA D-League.
Time was already running out on Pasig when Munzon followed up on a missed basket from Risers’ cager Leonard Santillan.
The Risers, led by Santillan with 6 points, were trying to force a final tie after Dylan Ababou put Pasig ahead, 19-18, with his layup in the final 1:26.
Pasig, which went on to earn the P100,000 from MLV Accounting RPS Zamboanga, took its first crown after also reaching the finals against the Risers, the first-leg winners last week.
Pasig’s Taylor Statham had seven points, while Ababou chipped in six.
Pasig was in the driver’s seat with a 12-6 advantage midway through the contest.
But the Risers rallied and moved in front behind Santillan’s two freebies and Manganti’s jumper, 16-14.
The Risers then slowed down after Manganti hurt his right ankle while taking a jumper. Peter Atencio
