Baldo’s lawyer opposes Crame transfer

The lawyer of suspended Daraga, Albay Mayor Carlwyn Baldo on Monday said his client would oppose plans by the local police to transfer him to the Philippine National Police hospital in Camp Crame in Quezon City.

Lawyer Lewinsky Fernandez, in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB beamed nationwide, said they would oppose the move.

Baldo is the primary suspect in the killing of Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Rodel Batocabe, who was leading in an unofficial pre-election survey for the post of mayor in Daraga.

Baldo is confined at the UST-Legazpi Hospital in Albay since Jan. 23 after suffering from hyperventilation in his detention cell.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in the Bicol Region has cases of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and illegal possession of an explosive before the Albay Provincial Prosecution Office against Baldo.

Fernandez said he visited Baldo Monday to update him on the hearing on their motion for bail.

“We objected [to the planned transfer] because they cannot insist on transferring him to a hospital that is not his choice since it violates his constitutional right,” Fernandez said.

The lawyer said Baldo still has to undergo several tests at the hospital.
