We can’t talk about a breakup movie without bringing up the main conflict between two lovers who decided to part ways. More often than not, the scenes featured are set for lots of intensity and lots of drama.
Intense emotions are expected from the characters due to the complicated actions and feelings their situation has put them through. But in Viva Films’ breakup movie Hanggang Kailan, there are no confrontations, there’s a showcase of extreme emotions but they are rather suppressed, at least based on the latest trailer that we saw during the film’s press launch.
In the pre-Valentine movie, Xian Lim and Louise Delos Reyes star as Donnie and Kath, a couple who’s celebrating their second anniversary. But instead of looking forward to more years together, they agree that this is going to be their last even though they are still very much in love.
Before they totally go their separate ways, Donnie and Kath take a four-day/three-night vacation in Saga, Japan. Amidst picturesque landscapes, new memories will be made, hearts will break. And they’ve always known that this is bound to happen.
“The heartbreak of Kath and Donnie is told amidst the beautiful landscapes of Japan. The movie asks the question kung hanggang kailan ka kakapit sa isang pag-ibig na alam mong mali. Hanggang kailan ka magsasakripisyo at puwede mo pa bang ituloy ang relationship nyo?” Xian said during the press launch.
Bona Fajardo, the man behind noteworthy films such as I Found My Heart in Santa Fe, Kahit Ayaw Mo Na, and Iliw, is the director that brings this screenplay by Onay Sales to life. In a previous interview, Fajardo had encouraged audiences to keep watching movies to discover stories to your liking.
“’Pag nagustuhan mo ang sine ituloy-tuloy mo na yan… kung ano ‘yong hinahanap mong ganda, kung anong istorya, nandiyan naman lahat ‘yan, makikita mo ‘yan.”
Echoing what Xian said, the director stated that the film revolves around the question: “What if you had one last trip to be with the person you love before you end your relationship? How do you say goodbye?”
Hanggang Kailan sees the first time that Xian and Louise are working together. The actress said she hit it off with Xian quickly because he was easy to work with.
“He’s refreshing to work with. It was just sudden when the project was offered to me. We didn’t have much time getting to know each other, except for the trip to Japan. That was when we got to talk to each other. He’s such a gentleman. He guided me in the scenes in Japan. He’s also collaborative as an artist. He has his own inputs,” Louise shared.
Aiming for longevity in show business, the Kapuso-turned-Kapamilya actress says she’s willing to try different roles to keep honing her craft. On TV, Louise was last seen in Asintado. Her last movie project was Para sa Broken Hearted (2018). It’s interesting to see how her team-up with the Chinito Heartthrob will bring out a side to her that her fans haven’t seen.
Meanwhile, Xian’s involvement in this movie goes beyond acting. The XL8 mentioned above is his new venture. Like Louise, Xian is not afraid to try new things. Last year, he started his basketball career, playing for Mandaluyong El Tigre in MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League). Around that time, he was also part of the box-office hit movie Miss Granny.
With Hanggang Kailan, Viva Films continues to redefine the romance genre in Philippine cinema with this special pre-Valentine offering, opening in cinemas on Feb. 6.
