After its successful run in 2018, racking up millions of views and amassing thousands of loyal supporters online, comedic duo Boobay and Tekla are back with an improved version of The Boobay and Tekla Show beginning this Sunday, Jan. 27.
From short-form online capsules, the well-loved comedy program now becomes a weekend show with a complete mix of entertainment viewers will enjoy. Every episode features celebrity guests, engaging in spontaneous and genuinely funny conversations with the hosts as well as segments where the hosts interact with everyday people.
Apart from being relaunched as a mainstream program, it is also set to compete with Vice Ganda’s late Sunday night show Gandang Gabi Vice. And just like any other TV personalities, comedic duo Boobay and Tekla are born ready.
“Competing against the other program is like going against the wall,” Boobay, or Norman Balbuena in real life, said during a press conference held at GMA Network Center recently.
“Our main purpose is to entertain the viewers. We have no intention to compete because it’s the management’s decision to put our show in the late evening timeslot. At the end of the day, people know what will make them happy, and it’s up to them to go for what they prefer,” Tekla, who was born Romeo Librada, added.
Boobay is thankful for the overwhelming support of their fans and he offers this program to them.
“We are thankful to GMA because they saw our chemistry as a comedy duo. But for me, it’s the fans that brought us to the small screen. If not for their support—their million views and thousand likes for each of the episode for our online show— GMA wouldn’t give us this chance to reach a bigger audience,” he asserted.
On the other hand, Tekla looks at comedy as a serious thing so he promises to exert more effort in putting a smile on people’s faces.
“Doing comedy is a big challenge and responsibility for us. For other people, comedy is just for fun, for us, it’s a serious business. I feel that we are leveling up, too. You see, from an online show, we’re now going to be seen on national television,” he said.
Witness another round of fresh gimmicks such as live performances, live prank, outrageous interviews with celebrity guests as well as the remake of the online hit ‘Dear Boobay and Tekla.’
Directed by Rico Gutierrez, catch the fun and excitement in The Boobay and Tekla Show beginning Jan. 27, 10:25 to 11:25 p.m. on GMA Sunday Grande.
