The season’s trendiest bags veer toward utilitarian with a touch of glam: think of updated versions of functional fanny packs.
Fanny packs are said to date back to the French in the 15th century when they wore a small bag that hung from a belt called a chatelaine; and the traditional Scottish sporran, a pouch that accompanied pocket less kilt. It wasn’t until the 1980s, with the first wave of athleisure dressing, that these belt bags or waist bags walked into the fashion scene.
Since then, everyone, from joggers to parents juggling kids, has been seen sporting this on the waistline. It’s been touted as a perfect cargo-carrying sack to hold keys, cell phone, and everything else that one may hold as they’re running around town or nature walking.
Today, the fanny pack trend has dominated both the catwalks and the streets: from the runways of Marc Jacobs, Gucci, and Balenciaga to the street style of celebrities and super models like Rihanna, Beyonce, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, and Kaia Gerber.
Parisian Bags’ new collection includes a variety of glittering and embellished fanny packs. The brand also offers hip backpacks that are fun and functional.
These bags are available at all SM Stores branches nationwide.
