Chief Supt. Joel Coronel, Central Luzon Police director, identified the victims as Roberto Delgado and Elizalde Rocafor.

Coronel, in his report, said the ambush took place along the national highway in Purok 1, Sitio Samat, Barangay Siminublan, San Narciso town at about 6 p.m.

He said the two councilors were on board a Toyota Fortuner and, while traversing the road network, were fired upon.

Coronel, quoting witnesses, said the suspects on board a red vehicle without license plate were seen tailing the victim’s vehicle and, upon reaching the place, overtook them and fired at them.

Both councilors sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately brought to hospital where they were reported already in stable condition.

Coronel vowed to identify and locate the culprits.

“We are looking into all angles to establish possible motives and we will leave no stone unturned to get into the bottom of this case,” Coronel said.

He assured the public as well as the victim’s families “of our total commitment to ensure immediate resolution of the case.”

The latest ambush came barely two days after the failed ambush-try on Bacolod City councilor Ricardo Tan and his wife Anita last Saturday in Purok Tagaytay, Barangay Alangilan at about 5:40 p.m.

Last October, aspirant councilor Allan Joson, 42 of San Antonio, Nueva Ecija was gunned down by motorcycle-riding gunmen.

Joson was standing along the street few meters away from his residence when unidentified suspect on board an orange Yamaha Mio motorcycle shot the victim.
