Maria Nieza Viray and Cesca Racraquin finished with 26 and 25 points, respectively, as the Lady Red Spikers booked their fifth straight victory in as many outings to keep last year’s losing finalists at the helm.

The Lady Bombers drew strength from the troika of Karen Montojo, Rizza Rose and Dolly Grace Verzosa, who scattered 12 hits apiece, but lost steam in the deciding fifth set when the prolific Viray-Racraquin tandem took over.

The Kalentong-based school suffered their third setback against two wins.

JRU, however, made heads turn in the juniors’ class after it surprised league leader San Beda in a gripping 16-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22, 15-9 win to zoom to fifth spot with a 3-2 card.

San Beda came into the game as the favorite after steamrolling its first four opponents, but ended up with its first defeat.

In the men’s section, JRU trounced San Beda, 20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 28-26, to improve to 2-3.

The Red Spikers slipped to 1-4.
