President Rodrigo Duterte has promoted Assistant Agriculture Secretary Waldo Carpio, the brother of his son-in-law Manases “Mans” Carpio, to Agriculture undersecretary, according to the appointment papers released by Malacañang on Thursday.
Duterte has close ties with Waldo as he was one of the principal sponsors of Waldo’s wedding two years ago. The following year, he decided to name Waldo as assistant Agriculture secretary.
Both Mans and Waldo are nephews of former Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.
The Palace documents also said Duterte has named Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board official Aileen Lizada as a commissioner of the Civil Service Commission.
Lizada, known for being an outspoken member of the LFTRB’s board of trustees, will now be among the CSC commissioners led by CSC Chairwoman Alicia dela Rosa Bala. She is expected to take the place of CSC Commissioner Robert Martinez.
The other new appointees were Carim Lawi Panumpang as undersecretary at the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Allan Batarra Gepty as assistant secretary at the Department of Trade and Industry, Maria Teresita Cruz Daza as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Chile, with concurrent jurisdiction over Ecuador and Peru, and Alexander Bangsoy as a member of Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation’s board.
The President also appointed Ruth Marie Isip Equipaje and Cesar De Guzman Aljama as board members of the Nayong Pilipino Foundation.
He also appointed Reynaldo Ola-a as Director IV of the National Security Council, Corinna Frances Cabanilla as Director III of the Commission on Higher Education, and Roy Morales Villa as a member of the Philippine National Railways’ board.
