Cabahug started cold, scoring only two points in the first half, but exploded for 18 in the second half.

He had eight points in the second overtime period, including a cold-blooded triple in the last eight seconds of the match and provided a fitting ending to the delight of the Cebuano fans that packed the Hoops Dome.

On hand to witness Cabahug’s exploits was Dondon Hontiveros, the Cebuano Hotshot and considered one of the best players ever produced by this province. Hontiveros played for the Cebu Gems in the MBA for two seasons, where he became a resident star.

On Saturday, Hontiveros was a guest panelist for the MPBL Datu Cup’s double header.

“Sobrang laking inspiration ang ibinigay niya not only for me but also for my teammates,” said Cabahug.

Earlier, San Juan continued its roll in the tournament, whipping the Imus Bandera, 77-50.

It was the 12th win in 15 games for the Go-For-Gold-backed Knights, who firmed up their hold on solo third spot in this tough northern division of the fastest growing regional amateur basketball league put up by Senator Manny Pacquiao with PBA legend Kenneth Duremdes serving as commissioner.”‹
