Our sit-down interview with actor and comedian Paolo Contis that lasted for an hour was a trip down memory lane with numerous banters and loud laughs in between. Even with just a few serious questions, Paolo had witty, no holds barred answers—very candid, if you will.
“Hey, I’m now a leading so I need to act differently,” he said with an animated face.
During the interview, Paolo recalled his early beginnings as a child star—his early projects in movies and television—until one scribe made a few revelations regarding his romantic affairs. But Paolo was all game. He made a few remarks and just joked about the “girls he loved before.”
“Let’s stop talking about that. You see, someone’s recording this. People might take me seriously,” he said in jest.
On a serious note, the 34-year-old actor-comedian feels glad that he’s busy and by the way he puts it, “November is a big month for me.”
With two upcoming movies under his belt, the Kapuso actor and comedian is ready to tackle more remarkable roles on the big screen.
“I am very excited to be back and at the same time, I’m a little anxious. I’m hoping that the viewers would also look forward to watching me on the big screen despite seeing me on TV all the time. Sobrang thankful ako na nabigyan ako ng opportunity to do these films,” he shared.
In the romantic film Through Night and Day, Paolo plays Ben, the fiancé of Alessandra de Rossi’s character.
The film highlights the dynamics of a couple’s relationship as they venture into a trip of a lifetime to witness the infamous northern lights in Iceland.
“It’s about a couple of 13 years. For the first time they’re traveling abroad. Alex is a struggling lawyer and I, I’m a musician who owns a bar in Baguio. After my character proposed to Alex’s character, we decided to have our pre-nup shoot in Iceland. We wanted a simple wedding but quite an expensive pre-nup. So, we saved up for that trip,” he said.
“It was our first time, Through night and day that we’re together. So more or less dun namin nakilala ang isa’t isa,” he added.
Before the month ends, he is also set to star in a comedy film entitled Ang Pangarap Kong Holdap, alongside fellow Kapuso comedian Jerald Napoles, Jelson Bay, and Pepe Herrera.
Currently, Paolo is one of the mainstays of the country longest-running gag show, Bubble Gang. He is also the voice behind Koboy in the first Filipino-made anime series, Barangay 143, on GMA.
‘‘I could assume that this could open doors but I’m not expecting. This is a good blessing to experience being a leading man. Hopefully maging maganda ang reception and people to appreciate what I did in the film,’’ he concludes.
