Travel is the best way to know companion’s character

Travel is the best way to know companion’s characterIn the upcoming film from Viva Films, Jen (Alessandra de Rossi) and Ben (Paolo Contis) have been friends since they were kids and decide they take their friendship seriously.

Before they make any sweeping decision, like getting married, Ben agreed to accompany Jen to Iceland, her dream travel destination.

What happens in Iceland does not remain in Iceland, for it did, there won’t be Through Night and Day, the movie about Ben and Jen’s Iceland holiday.

At the presscon, the two stars that play the lead roles in the film recounted their experiences, along with the film’s director (Veronica B. Velasco), while shooting in severe weather conditions in the country.

While all three agreed they had fun during the shoot, there were times in which the director would have second thoughts on whether to shoot or not as the weather condition was almost always unpredictable. “There were days when we would experience all four seasons: winter, spring, summer, and fall – all in one day,” she said.

“So, it was compulsory that we should be ready at all time,” Alessandra interjected. “There was a time when I nearly passed out due to hypothermia (low body temperature) and I got everyone in panic mode,” she giggled.

“Yeah, that would have gotten me in trouble,” added Veronica, “if Alex’s body temperature didn’t normalize.”

Exactly the kind of situations Ben and Jen go through during their holiday in Iceland. “It tells of the ups and downs of friends when they are in another country, but of course how they’d take care of each other,” related Paolo.

“There’s bickering over simple things, but they are able to get over them the soonest, and they discover how they care for each other,” Alessandra added.

Through Day and Night is the Filipino film shot in Iceland.   The team took the RingRoad and went around the country by car in seven days.  Veronica also directed Tuhog and My Other Self.

Paolo Contis, a former child actor, hasn’t made a movie for some time. This is his first after a long absence from the big screen. Known for playing funny roles on TV, this is his first film as a romantic lead.

Alessandra has always dreamed on traveling to Iceland. She wrote the story for the film and set it in the freezing conditions of the country. She said she feels Iceland is her second home (Italy is her native country), thanks to Björk’s music with which she can relate very much, like her biggest hit “It’s Oh So Quiet”. Paolo is also an Italian Filipino (his father was Italian). They have been friends (just like in the film) and had worked together in several shows both on and off the TV. This is their first film together. The romantic drama also stars Joey Marquez and Cheska Iñigo.

It features “I Will Be Here,” a cover of the Steven Curtis Chapman song performed by its lead stars.   It is scheduled to premiere on Nov. 14.

Hard work and a weave of magic pay off for millennial condo dweller

There’s no feeling more magical as the moment you have reached your life’s aspirations like getting your dream home.

It’s the same feeling, 28-year-old Alvher Luna experienced the first time he set foot in his family’s two-bedroom condominium unit at DMCI Homes’ Levina Place in Pasig City in July last year.

Though he has a regular job, Luna did shows as professional magician on the side to save and help his mother finance their dream of moving to a place of their own since they have been staying in his grandparents’ house in Barangay Kalawaan, Pasig since he was born.

And just like in the world of magic, anything is possible when one is armed with hard work and determination.

Encouraged by his wife Mary Joy, Luna looked for opportunities in kiddie parties, corporate events and mall shows on weekends.

“Noong bata ako hilig ko na talaga yung pagma-magic. So noon pa lang panahon nila David Copperfield, nanonood na ako sa kanila. Then noong 12 ako, nag-try akong mag-perform as a clown,” shared Luna who has mastered an array of tricks of the classic disappearing coin.

“Sumasama ako sa mga friends ko. Nagka-clown ako and then noong 17 years old na ako doon ako sumabak ng pagma-magician. Masaya ako kasi ngayon kumikita ako ng maganda, kahit paano natutulungan ko na yung mother ko,” he continued.

Up to now, Luna still could not believe they already have their own home and more importantly in one community made by a developer he only used to dream of before.

“Sabi ko sa sarili ko noon mahirap magkaroon ng bahay diyan… Sabi ko imposibleng maabot… Hindi ko talaga inakala na makakabili kami rito sa Levina Place,” said Luna, recounting the days he would see a billboard of DMCI Homes.

Composed of just three six-story buildings – Selene, Callista, and Amalthea, the 1.4-hectare condo community in Barangay Rosario, Pasig City offers low-density condominium living that encourages closed family ties and healthy community relations.

“Tahimik at very relaxing yung ambiance parang probinsya. Noong nakita namin sabi ko nga kahit saan ako lumingon maganda sa mata kaya hindi kami nag-dalawang isip na dito namin gustong tumira,” said Luna.

The property’s Asian Boutique design concept and resort-inspired amenities, on the other hand, provide residents a nurturing environment for their multi-faceted development.

“Pagkalipat namin dito gusto namin agad mag-swimming kasama ang mga pamangkin. Basketball, gym lahat nandiyan. Kumpleto na, napaka-convenient,” Luna beamed in reference to Levina Place’s wide range of amenities that also include a picnic area, game area, audio-visual room, lounge area, function hall and clubhouse.

Coupled with the property’s strategic proximity to key places of interest in the city, the property presents an ideal setting that constantly reinvents itself as a family haven that is a worthy venture for both end-users and investors.

“Malaki yung unit. Sulit sa pera and at the same time, quality siya. Malapit pa sa work ko kaya worth it talaga,” he enthused.
