Arellano University executive Peter Cayco has been recognized by the Philippine Olympic Committee as the newly elected president of the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc.
Cayco got the nod of the POC executive committee during a meeting at the Meralco offices in Ortigas.
Having succeeded Joey Romasanta, Cayco is expected continue what the LVPI started and the association’s focus on its grassroots programs.
The new leadership of Chito Loyzaga as the new head of the Philippine Amateur Baseball Association was also given recognition.
Loyzaga is all set to implement the association’s vision and mission, with new secretary general Pepe Munoz, who is into age group baseball.
POC membership committee head Richard Bachmann also said during the meeting that four new sports disciplines are knocking on the door of the POC, namely sikaran, kiteboarding, tchoukball and floorball.
In the meantime, the General Assembly of the POC has approved the inclusion of the Pilipinas Sambo Federation and the Philippine Cricket Association during its meeting last month.
The PSFI, headed by Immigration lawyer Paolo Claudio of Davao City, has made their representations before the POC.
Sambo is a Russian martial art and combat sport created in the 1920s by the Soviet Red Army initially integrating the techniques of judo, jui-jitsu and catch wrestling.
The PSFI was founded two years ago in Davao City.
The local body is already recognized by the Federation International de Sambo.
On the other hand, the PCA is represented by Rolando Goitia, who is their president.
