Listening and tinkering

In today’s world of digitized technology, having a sharp ear and the grit to turn a knob aren’t enough for one to fully deliver the best quality of sound from a high tech equipment. One needs to know how to use a product with technical efficiency as needed.

The gadgets are simply no more basic, so is the required level of know-how. Therefore, attending product clinics and getting updated can’t be a boring lot to someone wanting to attain such higher form of expertise.

“Digitalization is the future. We want industry professionals to take a look at our products and understand how to apply them to their needs,” expressed Jose Mari Yupangco, president of Yupangco Electronics Corporation (YEC) that distributes in the country the household Yamaha brand.

The future has long begun and kept moving.

YEC, along with the Yamaha Corportion Japan (YCJ), recently conducted a product discussion to support the launching of Yamaha Rivage PM7 during a two-day trade show held at World Trade Center in Pasay City. The state-of-the-art digital mixing system expands mixing options available for an even “broader range of applications.” It is also described as a “worthy heir to the PM name that brings true innovation to the developing live sound scene.”

This is best understood if you sat through the whole morning or afternoon session listening to the minute details that make up the said product and turn it into a really user-friendly tool. In other words, there is no other way to really appreciate a book than by immersing into its content. Thus, it proved useful that during the demonstration, there were key representatives from YCJ led by Takao Suzuki (sales development manager), along with the likes of Lou Garcia (senior technical support) from Yamaha Music Asia.

Yupangco stated, “This is a perfect opportunity for us to showcase and highlight our newest line of PM series, as well as our mixers and speakers. We are very happy to be part of Musik Manila.”

Participants included experts from the field of broadcasting and system integrators and institutions like schools, museums, corporate offices, houses of worships, among others.

It’s a big plus that the millennial generation is generally engaged to and keeping up with the fast-paced advanced technology fueling the business of sound production. Safe to say too that even a big chunk of Gen-Xers are well-adapting to the technical progress of the art of sound mixing.

Yupangco added, “As exclusive distributor of Yamaha professional, commercial audio in the Philippines, we make sure we are properly marketing and distributing the brand in line with its principle of sharing passion and performance.”

Additional thrill comes through discount packages like the current YEC Soundfest II Promo offered to buyers up to Oct. 15. As always you get ahead to familiarizing the workings of a toy if you have one in your room.

At the end of the day, capturing the best sound possible that the present time can provide is really the major challenge for sound engineers, regardless of preferences and generational gap. It’s a feat achievable beyond just stopping, looking, and listening.
