QUEZON City Mayor Herbert Bautista has turned over a new fire truck to fire marshal Sr. Supt. Manuel Manuel to beef up the capability of the Bureau of Fire Protection.
In a ceremony on Monday, Manuel accepted the symbolic key from Bautista and National Capital Region director Chief Supt. Roel Jeremy Diaz.
The pumper truck can be deployed to any fire situation. It has 1,200 water gallon capacity with a discharge capacity of 750 gallons per minute.
“This fire truck has a firefighting equipment even for a five-story building,” Manuel said of the truck to be based in Cubao’s Barangay Pinagkaisahan fire station.
“This will be of big help us to be able to further lower the high incidence of fire in Quezon City,” he said.
According to Manuel, the city’s fire cases have dropped 20 percent from 2017 to 2018.
QC has more than 20 fire trucks deployed in 26 fire stations.
“This is just the start of the modernization program of our agency with help from the mayor.
“Three other fire trucks would still be donated to us,” Manuel said.
Meanwhile, Quezon City on Monday hosted the kick-off of the 2018 National Crime Prevention Week at the Quezon Memorial Circle.
The celebration is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 461 signed by President Fidel Ramos that primarily aims to raise awareness on the importance of crime prevention and encourage the participation of the public.
Simultaneously, hundreds of police officers and barangay officials blew their whistles, Edilberto Pardinas of National Police Commission – Crime Prevention & Coordination Services said.
According to Quezon City Police District chief Joselito Esquivel, the city has provided several avenues in in reporting crime.
The city government is also conducting an intensive information drive to communities, encouraging the public to report suspicious behavior even on social media.
