IN search of players who will represent the Philippines in the FIBA U18 3×3 Asia Cup, Under Armour launched an Ultimate 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament at the Jacinto Tiu Competition Court inside Xavier School last Aug. 11, with Dragon’s Den and Hiyas emerging as champions.
In the boys’ division, Team Dragon’s Den reigned supreme against Team Chi Kids in the deciding championship match via a 15-9 score, while in the girls’ division, Team Hiyas crushed the team from the English Christian Academy, 15-5.
Dragon’s Den had a roster that consisted of Kobe Francisco, Gershom Montes, Cian Villaflor, and John Peters, while Hiyas enlisted powerful players that included Angel Surada, Princess Fabruada, Caila Galamiton, and Karl Ann Pingol.
The winning teams were awarded P35,000 worth of gift certificates each from Under Armour. They were also chosen to become the the country’s representatives at the Under Armour 3×3 Southeast Asia Tournament.
Runners-up Team Chi Kids and ECA, on the other hand, each received P20,00 worth of gift certificates, while bronze medalists Team Dream Crushers (men’s) and UP Diliman (women’s) took home P15,000 worth of Under Armour gift certificates.
The tournament was organized in partnership with the International Basketball Federation and serves as a screening for local U18 players who could be part of the national contingent that will represent the country against other national squads from Asia in the FIBA 3×3 U18 Asia Cup 2018.
