University of Perpetual Help System Dalta seeks to prove that its solid start was no fluke as it clashes with Emilio Aguinaldo College today in the 94th NCAA basketball tournament at the EAC Gym in Taft, Manila.
Edgar Charcos, a rookie transferee out of University of the East, has been exceptional in his first two games with the Altas as he averaged 20.5 points in a heartbreaking 65-67 defeat to the San Beda Lions and a 78-75 win over the Letran Knights.
Charcos, who took the full backcourt duties after veteran Kieth Pido was scratched out of the line-up for the whole season due to a broken foot, shone the brightest in the win over Letran as he posted a career-high 27 points with his NCAA career barely starting.
“He’s a big reason why we’re playing like this, I’m confident he could sustain it,” said Perpetual Help coach Frankie Lim of the sweet-shooting Charcos.
Charcos is currently second in the league in scoring behind 6’9” Cameroonian Hamadou Lamanou, who norms 24 points a game.
Although they won’t guard each other, Charcos and Laminou will somehow help try to slow each other down when they face off at 4 p.m.
While Charcos’ squad impressed, Laminou’s Generals barely made heads turn after dropping their first two games.
EAC mentor Ariel Season said they need to finish strong to win games.
“If you’ve noticed, we’ve always finished badly. Now if we could somehow find a way to finish big, we’ll have a chance,” said Sison.
