Affordable units for farmer-beneficiaries

The Department of Agrarian Reform on Thursday said two model units donated by Future Home Co. Ltd. would be used as display houses to show the living space and features of affordable houses to be constructed for agrarian reform beneficiaries.

Secretary John Castriciones said the housing program was expected to greatly improve the living conditions of the farmer-beneficiaries.

“Most of our farmers and farm workers are poor and do not own the house they live in. And even if they own it, most of their houses are dilapidated and needs repair. Why? Because the farmers would rather use their money for farming and family expenses than use it for house repairs,” he said.

“Through this housing project, we expect to achieve inclusive growth by uplifting the quality of lives of farmers and their families. And also through livelihood and educational support programs that we will provide under our support services office,” he added.

He thanked the FHCL represented by chairman Ramil Joselito Tamayo for its kindness and generous donation.

The donation consisted of two house units with two bedrooms, a duplex type, covering 37 square meters, and one greenhouse for lettuce hydroponics garden with an area of 24 square meters.

Both are inside the DAR compound on Elliptical Road, Diliman, Quezon City.

According to Undersecretary for Support Services Emily Padilla, the FHCL would also donate two other model houses to be located in Nueva Vizcaya State University compound and another in San Leonardo municipal hall compound in Nueva Ecija.

The housing program is “demand-driven” and the beneficiaries are free to choose their house design from among the model houses, including model houses from other donors.
