Not your ordinary refreshments

Filipinos nowadays are slowly becoming more health-conscious, which is evident in what they eat or drink.

A 2017 Kantar Worldpanel data revealed that “Filipinos opt for ‘light’ variants of such or food and drink with more nutritional benefits,” which is probably the reason why quite a lot of companies are offering all sorts of seemingly “healthy” food, juices, or refreshments. But not all food items tagged as healthy actually live up to their tag; some, especially drinks are loaded with more sugar and calories.

To cater to Filipinos’ need for healthier drink alternatives, Sekaya launches Botanic Infusion, a blend of traditional botanicals synergized to assist the body’s self-healing functions.

Sekaya (Sentro ng Pangkatutubong Yaman) is a consumer brand of Synnovate Pharma Corporation, a natural products company of Unilab, Inc. that provides organic natural products that are plant-based and is founded on tradition and health-based science.

“We want to achieve a certain level where customers drink because it is good for their health, and not only because it is refreshing,” said Judy Abrina, marketing manager of Sekaya.

Compared to ordinary tea bags, Sekaya Botanic Infusion comes in loose form and doesn’t have a bitter aftertaste. Each of the 23 variants is made using herbs, plants, and spices, or mixtures thereof that are meant to be functional.

“In Sekaya, we believe nourishment should be of mind, body, and spirit. The age-old principle of ‘You are what you eat’ is true for us, because our customers believe that whatever they put in their bodies must be good for them,” averred Abrina.

Sekaya’s Botanic Infusions are made of herbs, plants, and spices that help improve well-being.

Sekaya Botanic Infusion is committed to delivering products that have the highest standards in quality. Processing and quality-testing are in accordance with more stringent standards, especially since natural products are exposed to growth of bacteria and molds.

“As the loose leaves, flowers, roots, and bark dance in the water, there’s a full release of flavor and phytoactives in the water as opposed to ordinary tea bags where the contents are crushed and more constricted,” said Abrina.

It demystifies the valuable healing benefits of nature by creating products that are plant-based and science-based. It is certified organic by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Quality Assurance International (QAI), and meticulously tested in pharmaceutical grade laboratories.

Abrina explains that, “It’s about wellness. It’s about reaching out to the consumers. We are incorporating the medicinal benefits of plants on the dining table so that from the very beginning we can support our customers’ pursuit of avoiding illnesses, and prevent [people] from getting sick.”

To prepare the botanic infusion: put a teaspoon per 200 ml (one serving) of freshly boiled water in a teapot, prepare a cup, arrange on a tray with the botanicals, and serve. You can also make your own creations by adding mint or fruits or infusing it in any spirit.
