DAVAO CITY—The City Transportation and Traffic Management Office on Thursday warned drivers who possessed fake Public Utility Vehicle identification cards that they will be punished fittingly.

The CTTMO issued the statement after the arrest of Virgilio “Boy” Libawan, who was detained for making fake PUV IDs and selling them for P200 to P300.

“Once we find out that you are possessing a fake ID, we will make sure that you are going to be punished accordingly,” said CTTMO chief Dionisio Abude.

Abude reminded drivers that the acquisition of IDs and licenses is not a right but a privilege.

“This is the means of living that we have chosen, therefore we should protect it, so it would not be taken from us,” he said.

To acquire a PUV ID, a driver must undergo a seminar organized by the CTTMO. Afterwards, their details, including their name and license numbers, will be encoded in the CTTMO system.

The PUV IDs have a quick response code feature, which can be scanned through an application and reveal the driver’s identity, ID number and the date of issuance.

The QR code can also help traffic personnel on field to keep track of the violations committed by a certain driver.

After a month of implementation since April 1, the CTTMO has already apprehended 253 vehicles which has no PUV IDs.
