Recognizing the benefits of LED lights, the City of Ormoc partnered with Philips Lighting for its city-wide LED street lighting upgrade.
The project, a significant milestone in Ormoc’s complete transformation as a sustainable agro-commercial and industrial hub in Eastern Visayas, upgraded over 1,641 street lights with energy efficient Philips LEDs.
“Peace and order has been my number one focus for the city of Ormoc, the city lighting upgrade translates my mission for the city,” Mayor Richard Gomez said during the official lighting ceremony.
He added, “Investing in Philips Lighting’s new LED systems is one of the great steps we took in better equipping Ormocanons in undertaking productive pursuits. Aside from the operational and energy savings from our new LED road lights, the upgrade evidently transforms the visual appearance of Ormoc as an urban area—making our community more accessible, usable and safer especially at night.”
With the city’s ongoing completion of fast street LED lighting retrofit, Ormoc can expect over 70 percent energy savings coming from the its previous sodium street lighting.
“The City of Ormoc, through the leadership and vision of Mayor Richard Gomez, is one of the pioneering cities who saw how switching to LED lighting can affect not only the city’s energy consumption, but also the way of life of Ormocanons in general—and Philips Lighting is proud to be the chosen partner of Ormoc in making this initiative happen,” enthused Philips Lighting country manager Jagan Srinivasan.
