“Tawag ng Tanghalan” singer Rachel Gabreza took her talent to the global stage after she was hailed the champion at the Stars of the Albion Grand Prix 2018: 5th International Performing Arts Festival & Competition held in London, United Kingdom on Feb. 19.
Rachel, a member of the Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM), dominated the competition’s professional category and beat 30 contenders from countries such as Russia, Great Britain, Malta, America, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Greece, Cyprus, Estonia, India, Georgia, Armenia, Latvia, and Ghana.
Stars of the Albion is an international performing arts festival and competition, annually organized by Musica Nova International Academy of Music in UK and World Association of Performing Arts, which brings together extraordinary talented musicians and dancers from across the world.
Rachel got through the first level of the Grand Prix for her performance of “Go the Distance,” the song that proclaimed her a daily winner in “Tawag ng Tanghalan” in 2016.
She ultimately commanded the second level of the Grand Prix by belting out Jennifer Hudson’s “I Am Changing.” It is also the song that she performed to unseat the defending champion in “Tawag ng Tanghalan” that got her a score of 99 percent and sent the judges raving, including Rey Valera, who had fallen off his seat after clapping too much.
Rachel is the second Kapamilya singer this year to have represented the country and showcased Filipino talent on a global stage after KZ Tandingan, who is currently competing as a regular contender on China’s top-rating show, Singer 2018.
