DSWD rescues 20 street kids in Manila

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Manila has conducted an overnight rescue operation of street children in Manila.

They took custody of about twenty (20) kids seen roaming around the areas of Quiapo, Sampaloc, Sta. Mesa and Sta. Ana.

The social workers moved based on information from barangay officials.

Local officials say, many of the minors frequently engage in street fights.

Several parents of the street kids argued with the social workers.

But the DSWD said, the parents cannot accuse the social workers of human rights as their personnel are trained professionals who protect the rights of the child.

The street kids have been brought to the Manila Reception and Action Center of the DSWD.

Parents who are claiming back their kids are asked to present birth certificates or school certificates if available.

Some of the street kids are later on transferred to Manila Boys Town in Parang, Marikina.
