THE Quezon City government is pushing for an extension of the tax payment schedule to accommodate 74,000 business operators until Feb. 4.
District 1 Councilor Victor Ferrer Jr. said the 36-member city council shall convene a special session to act on a proposed ordinance extending the Jan. 20 tax payment deadline.
The number of business establishments in Quezon City swelled from 64,000 to 74,000 in 2017, Ferrer noted.
Mayor Herbert Bautista called on taxpayers to take advantage of the February extension.
Under Republic Act 7160 of the Local Government Code of 1991, all local taxes, fees and charges shall be paid within the first 20 days of January or of each subsequent quarter.
The law, however, has allowed the city, municipal or provincial council to pass an ordinance to extend the payment period not exceeding six months for a justifiable reason or cause.
Ferrer, the ordinance’s principal author, reminded the city’s business operators to pay on time and avoid penalties and surcharges.
