LAST year’s runner-up University of Perpetual Help System Dalta guns for the solo lead as it takes on San Sebastian College today in the men’s division of the 93rd NCAA volleyball tournament at the Filoil Arena in San Juan City.
The Altas, who lost to last year’s champion College of St. Benilde, got off to an impressive start after waylaying the Lyceum Pirates, 25-19, 25-13, 25-18, last week and the San Beda Red Spikers, 25-12, 25-17, 25-23, Friday.
The pair of victories sent the Las Pinas-based squad to a three-way logjam at first place with its nemesis CSB and Arellano University on two wins apiece.
UPHSD will play an SSC team that is riding the crest of a come-from-behind 15-25, 20-25, 25-2025014, 15-11 triumph over Jose Rizal Thursday to improve to 1-1 (win-loss).
Game time is at 2 p.m.
Meanwhile, San Sebastian and Perpetual Help, which both possess identical 1-1 slates, try to bounce back from stinging losses as the two collide in the women’s section at 12:30 p.m.
After hurdling their first assignment, Lady Stags absorbed a heartbreaking 25-27, 23-25, 25-22, 25-16, 12-15 loss to Shola Alvarez and the Jose Rizal Lady Bombers a week back, while the Lady Altas dropped a 26-28, 18-25, 27-29 setback to the San Beda Lady Red Spikers Thursday.
The winner regains its spot in the magic four in the division currently led by reigning titlist AU, which was unbeaten in three outings.
