FINANCE Secretary Carlos Dominguez III said many people will be affected if the Makabayan bloc in the House of Representatives succeeds in securing a temporary restraining order from the Supreme Court stopping the implementation of the first package of the Comprehensive Tax Reform Program.
In a 34-page petition, lawmakers led by Rep. Carlos Zarate said the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion law should be considered void because the House approved it without a quorum as required in the Constitution.
“… Well, if they get a TRO, then you guys will not benefit from the tax reduction in your salary. All of us will not benefit,” Dominguez told reporters in a briefing.
But he welcomed the move of the lawmakers, saying “everybody is entitled to file a weak or strong case… That is democracy,” Dominguez said.
