MARIVELES, Bataan—The leadership tandem of Mayor AJ Concepcion and Vice Mayor Lito Rubia is putting a premium on education with support from the members of the Sangguniang Bayan here.
Alas-asin Elementary School officials recently expressed thanks to the mayor, vice mayor, and town councilors, especially Councilor Tito Catipon, for their support in the school achieving the Brigada Eskwela Award.
The elementary school was awarded by the Department of Education in the recent national ceremony of the 2017 Best Brigada Eskwela Implementing Schools in Elementary and Secondary Levels held at Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
“Mayor Concepcion, Bataan Schools Division Superintendent Jessie Ferrer, and Alas-asin Elementary School Principal Marjorie Palomo headed our contingent that attended the ceremony held at Puerto Princesa Coliseum,” said Catipon.
Alas-asin ES was earlier adjudged by DepEd as the champion (Elementary Level-Large School Category) in the regional contest of the Brigada Eskwela.
“No less than DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones led the national awarding ceremony in Puerto Princesa,” said Catipon, who is the town council’s Committee on Education chairman.
In 1998, DepEd addressed the issues of classroom shortage, overcrowded classes, and schools being unprepared for the upcoming school year, through the Adopt-a-School Program. The initiative allowed a partnership with other stakeholders who are willing to share resources to improve the country’s public-school education system.
The program became successful and to reach even more people, DepEd cascaded the program to the communities in 2003 through Brigada Eskwela.
