She almost got hit by a car along the busy San Mateo road in Quezon City.
Barely three months old, this pup with such a frail body got so confused by the sight of moving cars and the loud sound of horns blowing around her that she froze in the middle of the road.
Admin Nicole Benedito of Save Animals of Love and Light (Save ALL) stopped the car, then admin Ruby Bautista got out to try to get the pup who ran towards a dark area near the side of the road.
They found her hiding under an old small cabinet behind a steel fence. After almost 30 minutes of coaxing her to get out of her hiding place using a dog treat, she came out slowly and Nicole grabbed her by the neck.
They brought her directly to the clinic for tests and later, for treatment of worms and low platelet count.
She was born with one “bad” eye but she can see well with her left eye.
Today, Princess is now a happy, friendly eight-month-old puppy who loves to play with other dogs.
She has been dewormed and vaccinated . She is ready to be adopted by a loving person who will treat her as part of his/her family, one who is willing to spend for her yearly vaccination, anti-rabies shot, and preventive medicine against heartworm and tick and flea infestation, among others.
Save ALL hopes to find a genuine animal lover who will love her for the rest of her life, and is willing to spend on her proper medical and daily care.
Princess, an Asong Pinoy or aspin, is just one of numerous rescues of animal welfare groups like Save ALL and individual rescuers who need a family they can belong to, an adopter who will never give them up no matter what, a person who will give them proper care by providing nutritious food and not food scrap, who will play with them and not just chain them to act as deterrent against robbers.
This Christmas season, animal welfare advocates hope and pray that people will ADOPT, and will not buy pups and kittens, specially those with breed.
When you buy, you also do the following:
1. Encourage breeders to breed more, even to the point of making a female dog get pregnant every eight months when a female dog is in heat. Imagine the strain of this practice on the dog’s body. Would you “breed”, erm, have your wife or daughter impregnated every 11 months for the rest of her life? The more you buy, the more money breeders will make out of the pups and kittens, the more they will breed dogs and cats to make moolah out of these poor beings.
2. You add more to the problem of increasing number of strays and abandoned dogs and cats on the streets.
When you adopt, you also do the following:
1. Make room for another dog who needs to be rescued or taken off the streets or from the kill or slow-kill pound or from dog meat traders.
2. This makes you a rescuer, not an enabler of irresponsible breeders and pet owners.
3. Give a second chance to a dog or cat who has only love to give.
When you adopt, you gain a lot in so many ways. Some of these benefits are:
1. Studies have shown humans who have pets are less likely to get sick.
2. Humans who have pets are happy humans because they get to express love and experience joy by simply looking at their cute pets whose smiles and licks warm the heart.
3. Pets must be walked daily. A responsible pet owner walks his or her dog.. This ensures the human is getting the exercise his or her body also needs.
4. Pets “train” would-be parents how to become responsible and patient, and teaches humans to understand non-verbal communication. This training makes them the best parents to their own kids later.
Do consider adopting a rescued pup, kitten, dog, or cat.
Please do not buy a pet and give the pet as a Christmas gift. The recipient may not even want a pet. Because of this, the pet will end up unwanted and neglected later. Both the recipient and the pet will thus end up unhappy. It is very important to find out if the recipient and all the members of the family want a pet.
A dog or a cat feels. And like you, they only want to be loved.
