ROOKIE team PDEA Drug Busters is moving into the second round of eliminations of the UNTV Cup Season 6.
That’s because the DOJ Justice Boosters toppled the Ombudsman Graft Busters, 95-73, during Sunday’s triple header.
Based on the league’s point system, DOJ, Ombudsman and DA, teams which have inferior points, are eliminated from the league this season, allowing PDEA to advance to the next round.
Meanwhile, Group A’s DOH Health Achievers, COA Enablers and BFP Firefighters also failed to advance.
Tthe AFP Cavaliers defeated the DOH Health Achievers, 92-71, enabling the soldiers to share their 5-1 standing with the Senate Defenders in Group A.
Meanwhile, the GSIS Furies stunned the defending champions PNP Responders, 76-68.
“Talagang trinabaho nila (Furies) nang husto. Kasi hindi namin inisip na we’re in sa second round. Sabi ko i-solidify pa natin, maka-tsmaba tayo against defending champion PNP,” GSIS Furies’ coach Myk Saguiguit said.
This win catapulted the Furies to the third spot in Group A, with a 4-2 card, surpassing the Responders, who now have a 3-3 standing.
PNP Responders Head Coach Erik Samson said: “Nahirapan kami. Hindi kami gaanong nakadepensa nang maayos doon sa mga one-on-one nila, sa atake nila, at maaga kami nag-penalty.”
Rene Boy Banzali and James Patrick Abugan were hailed as the Best Players of the Game after combining for 54 points.
The second round of eliminations kicks off on Thursday.
