Farmers from the town of Tupi in South Cotabato exported 2.3 metric tons of papaya to South Korea, the Agriculture Department said.
Agriculture Department Region 12 executive director Milagros Casis said farmers from Tupo initially shipped 1 MT of solo papayas in the last week of October, to South Korea. This was followed by a second shipment of 1.3 MT.
“We are glad that our farmers from Tupi inked a deal with Nurida Company based in South Korea,” she said.
Nurida Company is a distributor of fresh fruits in South Korea.
Tupi farmers, led by RM Fruits as the consolidator, committed to ship two to three metric tons of solo papaya every week based on the supply agreement signed by both parties.
“This is a triumph for us since we are encouraging more farmers in Region 12 to think of the bigger market. This is one of the priorities now of the Agriculture Department,” Casis said.
