CMMA honors weekly drama

Maynila, the weekly television program hosted by Buhay Party-list Representative and former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza, received a Special Citation at the 39th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA).

Cong. Atienza’s daughter and Maynila Executive Producer Angela Lei Atienza-Valdepeñas, received the plaque from CMMA during the awards night held at the Star Theater in Pasay City.

 “We would like to thank the Catholic Mass Media Awards for this Special Citation in recognition of Maynila’s efforts to continuously give inspiration to our audiences through interesting life stories promoting love of life and the family, as well as traditional Filipino values and culture. I am proud of my dad, who started this program 18 years ago. For almost two decades, he has maintained the show’s noble objective of promoting positive values,” Angela Lei said.

Maynila, the multi-awarded weekly morning Saturday television show of GMA 7 (9:40 a.m.), was started by then Mayor Atienza in 1999. It has been a consistent top-rating program in its time slot and is one of the longest-running “block-time” TV programs in the broadcast industry.

The show had been previously cited for its contributions to the cultural appreciation and values orientation of today’s youth, most notable of which is the Anak TV seal, an award given to Philippine TV shows which are child-friendly, that underscores the show’s attraction for the whole family.

Receiving the Special Citation from CMMA’s Benjamin V. Ramos, assistant to the acting chairman and President and The Rev. Msgr. Esteban Lo, chaplain, Chapel of the Eucharistic Lord, SM Megamall are Maynila Executive Producer Angela Lei Atienza-Valdepeñas, director Phil Noble, head writer Robert Raz and associate producer Mary Ann Agnes Rivera.
