Sunshine Place’s 3rd anniversary celebration

The Stars of Sunshine brightly sparkled during the recent third anniversary get-together of the Sunshine Place, showing everyone that talent indeed is ageless, and fun is forever.

The senior center’s growing family took part in the “Stars of Sunshine” anniversary show, which showcased the Broadway and movie musical experience through well-loved songs and dances straight from the Great White Way.

The Sunshine Place management and staff delighted the members and guests with their “Singin’ In The Rain” dance performance; while instructors of the dance classes gave fresh interpretations of iconic Broadway musicals. Le Bran instructors highlighted the Phantom of the Opera as a pasotango dance; while Zoom-to-the-Beat mentors gave Chorus Line a Zumba touch.

The anniversary show was also a recital for members participating in the center’s various classes who were joined by their instructors in their performances. Pop jazz class members led by instructor Ida Ramos showed they still had the moves in their Disco Inferno number; while social ballroom and yeba class members were marvelous in their “New York! New York!,” “Xanadu,” and “Cabaret” medley with instructor Nikki Camasura.

Although she was recovering from losing her voice, Maricor Mendoza sang  “I Could Have Danced All Night” from the musical My Fair Lady; while Hannela Bolus, also a voice class student and daughter of Sunshine Place member Camie Bolus, sang “Tomorrow” from the musical Annie.

One of the highlights of the event was a special performance by Atty. Tony Pastor who sang and played the piano, serenading the members with classics from Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals. Later on, he was joined by Jade Riccio, and sang duets from the Phantom of the Opera, Carousel and Sound of Music, accompanied by pianist Mary Anne Baclao.
