Prosecutors of the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday conducted a preliminary investigation on the double murder cases filed against the Caloocan policemen tagged in the deaths of University of the Philippines (UP) former student Carl Angelo Arnaiz and Reynaldo de Guzman.
The suspects, Police Officers 1 Jeffrey Perez and Ricky Arquilita, attended the hearing, as well as taxi driver Tomas Bagcal, who is also among the respondents.
The prosecutors gave the three accused until October 19, 2017 to submit their counter-affidavits following the charges filed by the Public Attorney's Office (PAO).
Once the counter-affidavits have been turned in, PAO will have until October 23 to submit their reply to the documents.
Witnesses who appeared in a Senate investigation last October 2 testified that 19-year-old Arnaiz was on his knees and was handcuffed when he was shot dead along C3 Road in Caloocan City on August 18, 2017.
The body of Arnaiz's companion, 14-year-old Reynaldo de Guzman, was found in a creek in Gapan, Nueva Ecija last September 5.
The boy sustained about 30 stab wounds.
