The National Resilience Council, a public-private partnership committed to building a disaster resilient Philippines through risk-sensitive investments and governance, held its first organizational meeting at the Tower Club on Sept. 19. Its lead convenor and founding members are: The Carlos P. Romulo Foundation, NDRRMC-OCD, DILG, DPWH, the Zuellig Family Foundation, ARISE Philippines, the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation, Makati Business Club, the National Competitiveness Council and the Manila Observatory. The following appointments were made: DND Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, co-chairman (government); Hans SY of SM Prime and ARISE Philippines , co-chairman (private sector); Ed Chua of Makati Business Club, vice chairman (private sector); DILG Undersecretary Austere Panadero, vice chairman (government); Antonia Yulo Loyzaga, vice chairman (science and technology sector); and, Enesto Garilao, vice chairman representing the CSO sector. Also appointed were Antonia Yulo Loyzaga as Council president and Malu Erni, as its executive director. The Council looks forward to increasing its membership through regional resilience councils composed of partners in industry, local governments, CSOs and the academic and research community.
