THE first-ever Asia Pacific University Swimming Championship will be held in the Philippines from April 13 to 15, 2018.
Venues being considered for the three-day competitions being sanctioned by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines and the Asia Pacific University Sports Union include Iloilo City or the province of Pampanga.
This development was confirmed by FESSAP executive vice president, Professor Robert Milton Calo, who said that the FESSAP Aquatic Club will be tapped to prepare for the swimming championship.
The FESSAP Aquatic Club has been tasked to put together the development plan to host the 1st Asia Pacific University Swimming Championship.
Aside from Prof. Calo who is also from PISCUAA, the other members of the Aquatic Club Working Committee are Allan Soria of the SCUAA, Ivy Sta. Ana of PRISAA, Edgar Galeno, Jim Justin Jalseburge Ang, Emer Matienzo, and Dennis Antonio Cordero.
The Aquatic Club will soon coordinate with Local Government Units and present its project.
Among the countries invited to send entries to the first-ever Asia Pacific University Swimming Championship include Malaysia, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Papua New Guinea, and the Republic of Korea.
Meantime, the 2nd Asia Pacific University Games will be held this year from December 6 to 11 this year in Cebu City.
The University of Cebu will host the multi-sport festivities.
Atty. Baldomero Estenzo, the UC Dean of Law, is the Organizing Committee Chair of the 2nd APUG event, has been appointed by the Asia Pacific University Sports Union Board to manage the APUG games along with Prof. Mustaza Ahmad, the APUSU secretary general from Malaysia. Prof. Mustaza is currently the Secretary-General of the Malaysia University Sports Federation or MASUM, a member of FISU.
