COLEGIO de San Lorenzo subdued Enderun College, 66-61, to clinch the last outright quarterfinal round berth in the NAASCU Season 17 men’s basketball tournament at the Rizal Technological University gym.
Soulemane Chabi Yo outdueled fellow import Serge Wabo Captue to power the Ironcon Builders-backed Griffins to their sixth win in seven matches.
More importantly, the win enabled CdSL to clinch the second outright quarterfinal round berth in Group B behind De Ocamåpo Memorial Colleges.
Chabi Yo, who is also best remembered for leading CdSL to the MBL title last June, finished with team-highs of 26 points, 16 rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocks in 38 minutes of action.
Jon Gabriel added 11 points and Charles Callano and Sablan added eight points apiece for the Boni Garcia-mentored Griffins.
“I hope the boys will continue to play well in the next round,” said Garcia, who led AMA University to the NAASCU title in 2006.
Vidal and Wabo Captue led Enderun with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
