Six Chinese companies expressed interest to bid for the construction of the Chico River Pump Irrigation Project in Cagayan and Kalinga provinces and the New Centennial Water Source-Kaliwa Dam project in Quezon province, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III said over the weekend.
The Chico River Pump Irrigation Project and Kaliwa Dam Project are two among the 75 flagship infrastructure projects already in the pipeline.
“Under the Chinese protocol, we agreed with the Chinese that for their projects, they will name three candidate bidders,” Dominguez said.
“Only the Chinese companies, because that is part of the loan agreement with them,” he said. Dominguez said these companies would most likely subcontract some of the projects to create opportunities for local firms to take part in the big-ticket undertakings.
“For the Kaliwa dam, it’s China Energy Engineering Co. Ltd., China Power Ltd., and a consortium of Guangdong Foreign Construction Co. Ltd. and Guangdong Yuantian Engineering Co. Ltd.,” Dominguez said.
Dominguez said for the Chico River project, the short list included China/CAMC Engineering Co. Ltd., China Geo-Engineering Corp. and Qingdao Municipal Construction Group Ltd.
