THE decision on whether or not to suspend Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson will be up to Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, a Palace official said Friday following her supposed violation of a government policy banning officials inside casinos.
Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, Uson’s immediate superior, said an internal investigation was now ongoing after Uson was seen doing nightly gigs at Resorts World, a popular entertainment complex in Pasay City.
“We are forwarding the matter to the OES [Office of the Executive Secretary],” Andanar said.
Malacañang’s Memorandum Circular 6 bans government officials, soldiers and people below 21 years old in casinos.
Andanar said Uson had already decided to stop performing in casinos since that was not allowed.
“Before [Assistant Secretary] Mocha entered the government service, she asked permission in my office if we [could] honor her entertainment contract, and we did as long as it [was] according to law. There is no law being violated here,” he said.
Asked if Uson had asked permission to perform in casinos, Andanar said: “There was none. Her request was just for us to honor the contracts she signed with the Mocha Girls.”
Uson was present during the deliberation for the PCOO’s budget for 2018, but she refused to face reporters.
