Balanga fishermen gain new equipment

BALANGA CITY”•The city government under the leadership of Mayor Francis Garcia and Vice Mayor Vianca Venzon-Gozon on Friday distributed fish buckets and coolers to fish processors in this city.

The officials led the turnover of fish processing equipment during the opening of the Barangay Learning Week Program in Dona Francisca.

City Agriculturist Neri Mateo said 200 plastic fish buckets, 25 large styrofoam boxes, and 24 coolers were given to local fish processors.

Garcia said the fund used in purchasing the wares came from Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

City Councilors Benjie Merino and Jovic Baluyot, other members of Sangguniang Panlungsod, and barangay officials were also present during the event.

Obet Malibiran, chairman of City Fishery Aquatic Resource Management Council, said motorized boats will also be given to Balanga fishermen.

Recently, city officials, BFAR officers, and fisherfolks in the ground breaking of the construction of the Community Fishlanding Center in Barangay Puerto Rivas Ibaba. 

The tandem of Garcia and Venzon-Gozon is committed to improve the plight of the fisherfolks in the city.
