BATANGAS CITY—Mayor Beverly Dimacuha and Rep. Marvey Mariño led the recent groundbreaking of the P338-million Calumpang Bridge project, the third in the city aimed at improving traffic in the area.
A city government flagship project to be financed by a loan from the Landbank of the Philippines, this four-lane bridge is 140 meters long and 15 meters wide and spans Sitio Ferry, Barangay Kumintang Ibaba, Calumpang River and Barangay Gulod Labac.
According to engineer Ronald Litan, project manager of Frey-Fil Corp., this type of bridge is the “first and only kind in the Philippines” because it will be using the box girder super structure scheme, which is different from the usual “I girder” being employed in other bridges in the country. The box girder design can be seen in countries in Europe and the United Arab Emirates.
Joachim Enenkel, president and CEO of Frey-Fil, told Batangas residents: “This is a project to be implemented very fast, with us doing the predominantly pre-cast work, so by May next year, you will have your bridge.”
“We will introduce a technology which is proven in the Philippines but the combination of technologies is first time in the Philippines. You will see a very nice state-of-the-art bridge, which hopefully would be a trendsetter all over the Philippines,” Enenkel added.
“The Calumpang Bridge #3 is a symbol of the collective effort and success of the Batanguenos. I am extending my heart-felt gratitude to all who supported and helped in the fulfilment of this dream project,” Dimacuha said.
She also thanked the Sangguniang Panlungsod for approving and supporting this project.
Mariño said the bridge was just the beginning of more projects for the progress of the city. There are plans after the construction of this bridge to transform the Calumpang River into a tourist attraction by putting up a park and a floating restaurant here, he said.
