TUGUEGARAO CITY—The Department of Agriculture in Region 2 said on Wednesday it has allocated P545 million worth of farm-to-market road projects for Cagayan Valley this year.

DA officials said the projects include the rehabilitation of dilapidated and damaged roads in villages and the construction of new road networks in the five provinces in Cagayan Valley.

Engineer Felipe Aguinaldo, DA regional supervising agriculturist, said the province of Isabela got the biggest slice of the allocation with P229 million, followed by Cagayan province with P142.5 million.

He said the province of Nueva Vizcaya was also earmarked P73.5 million, while Quirino and Batanes got P55 million and P45 million worth of farm-to-market road projects, respectively.

The fund for this year is in addition to the P1.8 billion previously allocated for the construction of 432 farm-to-market roads in the region from 2013 to 2016.

“These farm to market roads do not only improve the mobility of people, goods and services, but also provide access to employment opportunities and basic social services such as schools and health centers,” Aguinaldo said.
