AN official of the Metro Manila Councilors League has lauded the contribution of the Quezon City council for the establishment of the Philippine Councilors League in 1988.
QC District 1 Councilor Peter Anthony “Onyx” Crisologo highlighted the role of the late city councilor Guillermo “Willy” Altuna in the creation of a national councilors league.
“It was Quezon City that gave birth to the PCL 29 years ago. The people must know that,” he told the Manila Standard.
Altuna was the first PCL national chairman.
“We also give credit to our veteran councilors, now incumbent District 3’s Eufemio Lagumbay, District 1’s Victor Ferrer Jr. and District 2’s Godofredo Liban II. Twenty-nine years ago when they were still young councilors, they were responsible for the PCL creation, too,” Crisologo said.
During the recent sixth board meeting of the MMCL held in Marikina City, Crisologo said they agreed in principle to give Altuna, along with Lagumbay, Ferrer and Liban, the special recognition “they long deserve” on Sept. 2, 2018 during the PCL’s 30th founding anniversary.
“There is a bigger plan to express our sincerest gratitude for them in bringing to a higher level the issues of our local legislators,” he said.
