After acting coy for the past year about the real status of their relationship, South Korean actors Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki, stars of the popular KDrama "Descendants of the Sun," surprised their fans today with the announcement of their engagement. The good news was relayed through a joint statement from their management agencies, Blossom Entertainment and United Artists Agency (UAA).
According to the two agencies, the stars, dubbed the Song-Song couple by fans, are set to tie the knot this October 31.
“Marriage is not only a private matter but also a meeting between two families, so it was a delicate situation in many ways. There was no choice but to be cautious prior to marriage, and so we are at last conveying this message,” the joint statement read.
Both the agencies then asked Korean and international fans to send the couple their best wishes for the couple’s future together.
Fans of the couple all over the world rejoiced over the news. After the release of the statement, the hashtag #SongSongCouple rose to the number 1 among trending topics on Twitter both in the Philippines and worldwide.
This is Song Hye Kyo’s third engagement, having been previously involved with fellow hallyu stars Lee Byung-hoon and Hyun Bin.
