ALEX Cabagnot may have missed out on being the Best Player of the Conference but the consistent gunner exceeded all expectations when he shepherded the Beermen to the promised land.
The seasoned veteran showcased his steady play in the championship to lead San Miguel Beer to yet another parade by winning the 2017 Commissioner’s Cup to earn another crown in the Philippine Basketball Association.
Already recognized for his fine play throughout the recently concluded tournament, Cabagnot shone best when the stakes were highest. The SMB guard provided the Beermen the needed spark in their finals win to gain the highest individual award thus far in his career, a Finals Most Valuable Player recognition.
Still emotional from all the accomplishments that he and his team were savoring, the spitfire known as the “Crunch Man” expressed his gratitude for the success that he’s experiencing.
“I’m just thankful for everything that we’ve accomplished. This team is really special and it’s just amazing how far we’ve come,” said Cabagnot.
San Miguel won its fifth championship over the last eight conferences and its second straight, putting it in a position to be an all-time great team when it shoots for a Grand Slam in the season-ending Governors’ Cup.
Consistency is definitely Cabagnot’s strong suit as his team depended on his steady play every time to lead them to victory.
“Before the start of the conference, I just promised the management that I’ll be consistent with my play throughout and help the team as much as I can. Thankfully, we were able to get the championship. That’s everyone’s goal but I was also blessed with the Finals MVP. It just feels really good,” said Cabagnot.
Prior to all these recent accolades, Cabagnot was also able to bag an All-Star MVP last year.
After 13 years and counting, Cabagnot is at his peak and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
