When talking about living a healthy lifestyle, people often focus on two things—eating right and living an active lifestyle. What we often overlook though, that just like regular exercise and a well-balanced diet, maintaining healthy skin is just as essential for our overall well-being.
Remember that our skin is the largest organ of the body. It not only serves as our main protection from microbes and the elements, our skin also helps regulate body temperature, and permits the sensations of touch, heat, and cold.
Maintaining a healthy skin completes our overall healthy lifestyle goals and when it comes to skin protection, one brand has remained consistent in its promise to deliver the most gentle skin care products for the past 70 years.
Platinum Anniversary
In an industry ruled by trends and constant changes, 70 years is simply no easy feat, an accomplishment Cetaphil shares with other icons such as Ferrari, the House of Dior, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Elton John as well as the prestigious Tony Awards.
Invented in 1947 by a pioneering pharmacist in Texas, the first product—“Cetaphil Cleansing Lotion” known today as Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser—still uses the same formula. Customers soon recognized its gentle cleansing power and from then on, the Cetaphil range of products started to grow.
Now, 70 years later, Cetaphil is available in more than 70 countries worldwide and offers a wide range of everyday products from, cleansers, moisturizers, sun protection to baby products and solutions for sensitive skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and rosacea.
Specifically formulated to provide effective skin care for a variety of skin types and conditions, Cetaphil has become one of the top skin care brands recommended by dermatologists and other healthcare professionals across the world.
To celebrate this milestone, Galderma held a two-day anniversary celebration at the Makati Shangri-la Cetaphil for the media and its loyal trade partners.
“Maintaining a healthy skin completes our overall healthy lifestyle goals and for several generations, Cetaphil has been at the heart of their skin care regimen, says Raghavendra “Raghu” Sadashiva, general manager of Galderma Philippines.
Cetaphil gives every skin type an effective product that completes their overall health routine. Cetaphil promises healthy skin and for 70 years, it never fails in delivering exactly just that.
“It’s the very reason why Galderma has devoted the last seven decades to working closely with medical experts in better understanding people’s skin care needs. Having to develop a wide range of everyday Cetaphil products from cleansers, moisturizers, sun protection, baby products and even solutions for compromised skin conditions,” adds Raghu.
The science of gentle
Did you know that Cetaphil is actually even gentler than water?
Our skin has a natural pH balance of 5.5-6 that is why we need to be using products in this range because anything higher will make our skin dry, or worse, break out. Skin cleansers should be below 6 and the standard water pH is actually at 6.5-9.5 whereas Cetaphil is at 5.5 making it even gentler than water and safe even for newborns.
The essence of Cetaphil is in the name: the ‘phil’ at the end means ‘love’, while the ‘Cet’ comes from the fatty alcohol which is used as an emollient—Cetyl alcohol. ‘Cetaphil’, therefore, is the love of softening and soothing skin.
“With its gentle and clinically proven formulas, Cetaphil reinforces and protects the structure of the skin—even in people with the most sensitive and delicate skin,” explained Dr. Eszter Baltas, dermatologist who contributed to developing Cetaphil products and now Associate Professor at the Department of Dermatology and Allergology in Szeged, Hungary. “Thanks to its long heritage, based on in-depth understanding of dermatology, Cetaphil offers reliable, scientifically-tested solutions.”
The Cetaphil range has become the trusted brand by experts and most prescribed by doctors across the world because it has an effective product for every skin type–dry, sensitive, oily, combination and normal skin.
“Our moisturizers provide 24 hours of moisturizing and has the complete key ingredients to make us more effective than others in the market. With one application, we can sustain the moisturizing of the skin up to 24 hours making it really convenient for our users to regularly moisturize, says Galderma Consumer Business Unit Head Jade Silva-Netto Ponoc.
“So our Cleansers and Moisturizers go hand in hand to deliver one of the moist powerful skin care regimen you can ever have,” she adds.
“The Baby line is the latest innovation of Cetaphil and was launched in 2015,” notes Catherine Palma-Dilanco, Senior Brand manager for Cetaphil.
“For neonatal use there’s Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and Moisturizing Lotion; for babies with delicate normal skin, there’s Cetaphil Baby, for those diagnosed with Atopic Dermatitis/Eczema there’s Cetaphil Restoraderm and for acne prone skin, Cetaphil Oily skin cleanser.”
Cetaphil Baby It is the very first line specifically made for babies with normal skin. It has a mild fragrance and provides tear-free bath time for mom and baby. It comes in complete range of Shampoo, Bath and Wash, Moist Wash and Shampoo, lotion and Massage oil.
Specifically formulated for Atopic Skin, there’s Cetaphil Restoraderm. It has an advance Dermo Restoration system that helps restore and repair the barrier of the skin that is highly compromised when patients are diagnosed with Atopic Dermatitis or even Eczema.
“Cetaphil has been used by people with sensitive skin for more than three generations” said Neil Popplewell, vice president Consumer Business, Nestlé Skin Health. “Over the last 70 years, we have worked closely with medical experts to better understand people’s skin needs. This has allowed us to provide different solutions adapted to these needs, and to make the Cetaphil range what it is today.
