Death of 13 Marines in Marawi raises number of AFP fatalities to 58

The number of government troops killed in battle in Marawi City has reached 58.

The figure includes the 13 Marines who died during a 16-hour battle with Maute group from dawn until early evening on Friday.

At least 40 other soldiers were injured in the fighting that took place in Barangay Lilod Madaya.

The fatalities reportedly include First Lieutenant Frederick Sabillano, commander of the Marine Battalion Landing Team (MBLT) 7.

Sabillano’s group previously seized P 52 million cash and P 17 million worth of checks from an area that the Maute terrorists had used as hideout in Barangay Mapandi.

One of the fatalities was a Marine from MBLT 5.

The military puts the death toll on the Maute side at 138.

The siege in Marawi has claimed the lives of 21 civilians.
