It was just a week ago when KFC Philippines launched the first nationwide search for KFC’s First Filipino Colonel, which threw fans into a frenzy. Three veteran actors vying for the title went face-to-face to audition for the role of a lifetime. Donning the iconic Colonel Sanders white suit, black string tie, and black frames, each actor showcased his best impression of the world-famous Kentucky Fried Chicken founder.
The winner, as predicted by the majority, was none other than the original cool dad of Filipino movies, Ronaldo Valdez.
A film and TV actor with a career spanning over 50 years, Valdez brings to the table his indubitable similarity to Colonel Harland David Sanders, the culinary genius behind KFC’s secret 11 herbs and spices recipe.
Beyond just looks, as the two can pass off as twins, Valdez also shares Colonel Sander’s fatherly personality, passion for one’s craft, and penchant for great-tasting chicken.
“I am proud and honored to be KFC’s First Filipino Colonel. Even before auditioning, I was already a big fan of KFC. My go-to order is the Original Recipe chicken paired with a side of rice and unlimited gravy,” shared Valdez.
Contenders, Leo Martinez and Pen Medina congratulated Valdez and offered their words of wisdom to the winning Filipino Colonel. “Wala ka dapat kilingan dahil masarap lahat ng KFC chicken,” said Batangueño funnyman Martinez. “Career-in mo ‘yan kasi kung ako ‘yong nanalo, ka-career-in ko ‘yan,” exclaimed the award-winning indie actor Medina.
“We’re excited to have Ronaldo Valdez on board as KFC’s First Filipino Colonel. I am confident that he can fulfill his duties as Colonel while adding his own Pinoy flair to the iconic fried chicken forefather. This is just the start of many more good things to come for the brand and we look forward to the same level of support from our consumers,” said KFC Philippines General Manager Chacha Juinio.
