The Voice Philippines runner-up Daryl Ong is ready to make his mark on the music world. Gearing up to a solo concert with plans to create original music running through his mind, the former animator turned singer eagerly answered the question: What can we expect from his first solo major show?
“It’s going to be an intimate show. I’m going to tell a story which starts from my humble beginnings doing gigs with my former band while working as an animator to singing songs for big TV shows and performing before large crowds,” the singer told Manila Standard.
He added that the show and the songs he is going to perform will also touch on his relationship with his family, his kid, his avid supporters, and to his colleagues who are all instrumental in making his musical journey looking better and promising at this point.
Daryl is returning to the Music Museum on May 19 for the concert billed Daryl Songs (stylized as DARYL SONGs to highlight his last name) performing some of his hits and famous covers including “Stay,” “On the Wings of Love,” “Ikaw,” and “Basta’t Kasama Kita,” to name a few.
Produced by ABS-CBN Events and Star Events, the one-night concert will have special guests namely Jay R, Jona, Thor, and Vice Ganda.
“I’m very thankful that I was given this rare opportunity to connect with my fans. And treat them with the thing that I do best. I’m also grateful because solo concerts are like milestones for us singers. Not everyone is given a chance to do a solo concert,” he shared.
Inspired by the music of Justine Bieber, Ed Sheeran and Gary Valenciano, Daryl considers himself as a late bloomer in terms of discovering his passion for music. He was 22 when he started performing gigs and he was 26 when he started doing some music demo.
“I asked Vehnee Saturno if it’s too late for me to make a name [in music] and he told me that it’s still possible for me to known in this industry that most of the time looks for fresh and very young talents. He said Ariel Rivera was already 27 when he started making a name on the recording scene,” he narrated.
Daryl failed to win the second season of The Voice Philippines in 2014. But despite not being the grand winner, he still continued his dream and showed everyone that he’s definitely here to stay. He is now focused on conquering the concert stage and preparing to come up for a solo record, too. He is keen on establishing his name as a recording artist so that one day he could also help out aspiring singers – something that he considers as his responsibility being lucky enough to be surrounded by people who help his career in music fly.
“This is my preparation for a bigger dream. I was part of a band before so I know how hard it is to penetrate mainstream music. There are so many talented singers and music artists out there that we have yet to discover. Some of them simply don’t have the proper venue to perform or the right avenue to be known. That’s why my ultimate dream is to become a music producer,” the R&B singer concluded.
